"Imagine leaving your leadership class for most of the period only to return and find the students hadn't noticed your absence. Lessons continued, projects were discussed and things GOT DONE. This picture can be a reality, strong leaders can be developed, and school activities can be turned into an avenue to create leaders for today and tomorrow."
TODAY'S student leaders need the opportunity to learn and develop skills that will equip them to lead themselves as well as those around them. High school activities programs provide the optimum environment to empower these student leaders. Too often, though, an activities program focuses more on the present events than on developing student leaders and improving school culture. This Academy is designed to give you the knowledge, skills, resources, and inspiration to create a program that uses lessons, activities and projects to develop competent leaders who can make a positive difference on your campus and in the world around them.
With their combined years of experience, Ron and Phil bring a clear understanding of the activities director role on campus. Their vision and understanding of how to create a meaningful and transformational activities program will not only unify your school but also allow your students to develop into confident, dynamic and compassionate leaders.
The Activities Director Academy completely changed my approach to teaching Leadership. I now have time not only to "manage" kids, but also to instruct them. My students are learning the qualities of leadership that can carry into their lives. The Academy allowed me to touch the future with great effectiveness.

You will return to school will a clear idea of how to run a leadership class. You will have a plan to blend the students need to be busy doing, with your need to teach leadership lessons and maximize the value of their leadership experience. This course is set up to be interactive so you listen, write, and engage in dialog as you actually practice the activities you will return and share with your students. Past participants have been thrilled with the number of hands on activities, examples, and illustrations they have received and been able to use as soon as they return to school. We know many of your students repeat leadership class several times so we offer alternate lessons to accommodate these repeat learners.
In 7 years as an Activities Director, I have attended dozens of conferences, workshops and camps; without doubt the Academy has been the most valuable of all. Our activities have become bigger and better and our leadership is incredibly productive, and we are providing our student leaders with lifelong skills.
- Tim Liles, Sunnyside HS, Fresno, CA
You will return to school with a clear idea of how to be successful as an activities director. Discussions on reasonable limits, rational expectations, how to get the best out of students, and how to support and gain support of staff will happen. The past conferences have been a nice blend of newer activities directors and very experienced advisors. This blend has allowed for powerful discussions on how to balance the "teaching" and the "doing" of leadership and activities. Each graduate of the academy is invited to use Ron and Phil as a resource and will receive newsletters and other support well after the academy is over.
